RESUMO: A perda de rendimento induzida por plantas daninhas na cultura do trigo é uma grande ameaça à segurança alimentar no Paquistão. Uma compreensão abrangente da competição de culturas de plantas daninhas é muito importante para desenvolver um manejo sustentável e econômico dessas plantas. Para esse propósito, foram conduzidos estudos de campo de dois anos para determinar o efeito de diferentes populações de cardo-mariano na fenologia e rendimento da safra de trigo no esquema de cultivo de trigo de arroz de Sargodha, Paquistão, durante 2013-2014 e 2014-2015. O experimento consistiu de sete tratamentos: controle (livre de plantas daninhas), teste de plantas daninhas (sem controle) e densidade populacional do cardo-mariano de 5, 10, 15, 20 e 25 plantas m-2. Em resposta ao aumento da densidade de plantas daninhas, observou-se redução gradual no rendimento e nas características relacionadas com o rendimento do trigo. Comparado ao controle livre de plantas daninhas, reduções significativas em número de perfilhos produtivos m-2 (20% e 18%), altura de plantas (15% e 18%), comprimento de espiga (19% e 26%), número de grãos espigão-1 (23% e 26%), peso de mil grãos (28% e 28%), grãos (29% e 30%) e rendimento biológico (20% e 24%) de trigo ocorreram em e além da densidade populacional de cardo-mariano de 5 plantas m-2 durante 2013-2014 e 2014-2015, respectivamente. Pode-se concluir que a planta daninha Cardo-mariano deve ser controlada se sua densidade populacional atingir 5 plantas m-2, a fim de evitar perdas significativas no rendimento de grãos do trigo.

ABSTRACT: Weed-induced yield loss in wheat crop is a great threat to food security in Pakistan. A comprehensive understanding of weed-crop competition is very important to develop sustainable and cost-effective weed management. For this purpose, two-year field studies were conducted to determine the effect of different blessed milkthistle densities on the phenology and yield of wheat crop in a rice-wheat cropping scheme in Sargodha, Pakistan during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. The experiment comprised seven treatments: control (weed free), weedy check (weedy without any control) and blessed milkthistle densities of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 plants m-2. In response to increasing weed density, a gradual reduction in yield and yield-related traits of wheat was noted. Compared to the weed-free control, a significant reduction in number of productive tillers m-2 (20% and 18%), plant height (15% and 18%), spike length (19% and 26%), number of grains spike-1 (23% and 26%), 1000 grain weight (28% and 28%), grain (29% and 30%) and biological (20% and 24%) yields of wheat occurred at and beyond blessed milkthistle density of 5 plants m-2 during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 respectively. It can be concluded that blessed milkthistle weed must be controlled if its population density reaches 5 plants m-2 in order to avoid significant grain yield losses in wheat.

RESUMO: As plantas daninhas têm efeitos indiretos no cultivo de plantas. O desenvolvimento das culturas é afetado pela alelopatia de certas espécies dessas plantas. Os aleloquímicos de plantas daninhas alelopáticas podem perturbar o crescimento da raiz e da parte aérea de mudas emergentes das espécies cultivadas, além de causar vários outros danos. Foi realizado um estudo para investigar o potencial alelopático da espécie Parthenium hysterophorus em resposta às plantas invasoras da cultura da soja. O experimento foi conduzido em um Delineamento de Blocos Completos e Casualizados (DBCC), em esquema de parcelas subdivididas e com três repetições. Os métodos de semeadura (semeadura a lanço e em linha) foram mantidos na parcela principal, e os tratamentos com cobertura vegetal (cobertura de superfície e incorporada ao solo) foram mantidos nas subparcelas. A cobertura vegetal de Parthenium hysterophorus foi aplicada a 1,0 t ha-1, 2,5 t ha-1, 5 t ha-1 e com controle (sem Parthenium). O controle manual de plantas daninhas também foi utilizado como tratamento. Os resultados revelaram aumento significativo do comprimento, peso fresco e peso seco da parte aérea, comprimento, massa fresca e peso seco das raízes, número de nódulos por planta, peso fresco e seco dos nódulos, número de ramos, número de vagens por planta, rendimento biológico do peso de mil sementes, rendimento econômico, rendimento da matéria seca e índice de colheita devido à incorporação ao solo da forragem de Parthenium a 2,5 t ha-1. A densidade máxima de plantas daninhas e a biomassa seca delas foram registradas nas parcelas de controle, enquanto a eficiência do controle de plantas daninhas foi maior nas parcelas onde a forragem de Parthenium foi aplicada na superfície a 5 t ha-1. Os resultados sugeriram que o uso da cobertura vegetal com forragem de Parthenium hysterophorus pode reduzir a infestação de plantas daninhas devido aos efeitos alelopáticos dessa planta e aumentar o rendimento de soja em condições agroclimáticas subúmidas.

ABSTRACT: Weeds have indirect effects on crop plants. Crop development is affected by allelopathy from certain weed species. Allelochemicals from allelopathic weeds can disturb the root and shoot growth of emerging crop seedlings, as well as cause several other types of damage. A study was carried out to investigate the allelopathic potential of Parthenium hysterophorus for weed response in soybean. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with split plot arrangements and replicated thrice. Sowing methods (broadcast and line sowing) were kept in the main plot and mulching treatments (surface mulching and soil incorporation) were kept in the sub-plots. Mulching of Parthenium hysterophorus was applied at the rate of 1.0 t ha-1, 2.5 t ha-1, 5 t ha-1 with control (no parthenium). Manual weed control was also used as treatments. The results revealed that significantly higher shoot length, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, root length, root fresh weigh, root dry weight, number of nodules per plant, nodules fresh and dry weight, number of branches, number of pods per plant, thousand seed weight biological yield, economic yield, dry matter yield and harvest index were recorded with the soil incorporation of Parthenium herbage at the rate of 2.5 t ha-1. Maximum weed density and weed dry biomass were recorded in control plots while weed control efficiency was seen greater in plots where Parthenium herbage was applied to surface at the rate of 5 t ha-1. The results suggested that the use of Parthenium hysterophorus herbage mulching can reduce infestation of weeds by its allelopathic effects and increase the yield of soybean under sub-humid agro-climatic conditions.

RESUMO Para determinar o efeito da cobertura vegetal de losna-branca (Parthenium hysterophorus) sobre o crescimento e a produtividade da soja, foi realizado um estudo no Departamento de Agronomia da Faculdade de Agricultura da Universidade de Poonch, Rawalakot, Azad Jammu e Kashmir. O experimento foi conduzido tanto em laboratório quanto em estufa. A cobertura vegetal de Parthenium na superfície do solo e a incorporação ao solo ocorreram em diferentes níveis em laboratório e também na estufa. Obteve-se o maior potencial alelopático através dos tratamentos de incorporação de Parthenium ao solo, especialmente com a incorporação de 5 t ha-1 de forragem de Parthenium ao solo. Esse fato pode ser devido à presença da umidade no solo, que aumentou a decomposição de Parthenium, levando ao retardo do crescimento e de outros parâmetros. O estudo mostrou que a espécie Parthenium hysterophorus causou redução significativa da emergência, do crescimento das mudas e da produtividade da soja.

ABSTRACT To determine the effect of Santa Maria (Parthenium hysterophrous) mulch on growth and yield of soybean, a study was conducted at the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, The University of Poonch, Rawalakot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The experiment was conducted in the laboratory as well as in the greenhouse. Parthenium surface mulch and soil incorporation was practiced at different levels in laboratory as well as in greenhouse. Higher allelopathic potential was found by the treatments of Parthenium soil incorporation, especially when soil incorporation of Parthenium herbage @ 5 ton ha-1 was practiced. This could be because of the presence of soil moisture that enhanced the decomposition of Parthenium therefore, retarded the growth and other parameters. The study showed that Parthenium hysterophrous considerably reduced the emergence, seedling growth and yield of soybean.
